February 2007
Southwest Washington Health Systems purchased the 75 acre Discovery Pointe site, northeast of the I-5-Ridgefield interchange from the Port of Ridgefield for $17.8 million. This is in the Discovery Corridor. Plans call for a medical clinic, retail complex, hotel and office buildings, and maybe a hospital in the future. Thousands of high paying jobs could be created. Port of Ridgefield Commissioners and Ridgefield Mayor Doriot said this was a perfect fit and the entire area will benefit. For more pictures, click here.

At 7 A. M. on June 8, 2006 hundreds of supporters of the Cowlitz Casino Resort gathered at the Centennial Center Red Lion Inn at the Quay, 100 Columbia Street Vancouver, Washington to hear an update on the status of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. The Cowlitz Tribal Drummers entertained before and after the report.
Several members of Friends of the Cowlitz spoke about the benefits to the Cowlitz Tribe and the SW Washington area that the Casino will provide. Click here for more pictures.
March 21, 2006
US Representative Brian Baird conducted a Town Meeting at the Woodland High School Commons on March 21, 2006 form 7 to 9 pm. It was well attended and everyone had a chance to ask questions and voice their concerns. Click here for more pictures.
February 15, 2006
On February 15, 2006, over a thousand people attended a public meeting at the Prairie High School, in Brush Prairie, WA to hear about the proposed Cowlitz Casino Resort. The proposed resort would be built at the La Center junction. "We are nowhere near a decision" said James E. Cason. Cason is the person that will make the final decision. He is Associate Deputy Secretary of the Department Interior. A second meeting was held on February 16, 2006 at the Vancouver High School auditorium. January 23 and February 1, 2006
A work session of the La Center City Council was held on January 23, 2006 with Guy Martin, attorney representing the La Center Casino-Card Rooms, opposing the proposed Cowlitz Tribal Casino at La Center Junction.
A work session was also held on February 1, 2006 with Cowlitz Chairman John Barnett, representatives from The Mohegan Tribe and attorneys. For pictures taken at both of these meetings, click here.
January 12, 2006
Caldie Rogers, President/CEO of the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce gave a presentation praising the benefits to her community as a result of the Tulalip Casino in that area. Questions regarding the impact of a proposed Cowlitz Casino in the La Center area were answered by Dave Barnett of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe and Craig Rowland representing the opponents. The event, sponsored by the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce, took place at The Cedars Golf Course in Brush Prairie on January 12, 2006. Cowlitz Casino Reception
The Cowlitz and Mohegan Tribes hosted a reception at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Vancouver, WA, on October 21, 2005, to update folks on the progress of the proposed Cowlitz Casino. Washington State Senate adopts resolution supporting
Cowlitz Tribe efforts to establish initial reservation

Vancouver, WA - The Washington State Senate adopted a resolution on April 20 supporting the Cowlitz Indian Tribe's "fee-to-trust" application to establish a reservation in southwest Washington. Senate Resolution 8682 recognizes the Cowlitz Tribe's long history in the region and its efforts through much of the 20th century to achieve formal acknowledgement as a federally recognized tribe...click here to read more.

Proposed Cowlitz La Center Casino Big Deal
The Cowlitz Indian Tribe has teamed up with the Mohegan Tribe to build and operate a casino complex on the NW corner of the La Center Junction off I-5.
An intergovernmental task force of elected officials has been formed to collect information and have questions answered. A meeting of the task force was held January 29. 2005 at 9 a.m. in the Clark County Public Service Center 1300 Franklin St., 6th Floor.
